Raleigh/Durham - While temperatures and fuel prices rise this summer, the American Red Cross reports that the blood inventory levels have fallen so low it is unable to sufficiently meet the demand of local hospitals. While there is a constant need for all blood types, donors with type O positive, O negative, A positive and A negative are asked to take an hour of time to help save a life by donating as soon as possible at a drive location near them. more

 | Red Crossers, seen here with Kay Hagen (D), converge on the North Carolina State Legislature for the First Annual NC Red Cross Day at the Capitol.
| The North Carolina First Annual Red Cross
Day at the State Capitol was a huge success with ten chapters from
across the state coming together in Raleigh on Wednesday, June 4.
Employees and volunteers lobbied for two issues important to the Red
Cross in North Carolina: tax-exempt status for purchases made with
client assistance cards and a bill to lower the age for blood donors to
16 with parental consent. Information stations were set up in the
Capitol to educate elected officials about Red Cross services in North
Carolina. The Red Cross contingency closed out their day in the gallery
of the North Carolina House and Senate with acknowledgment from the
floor by Rep. Ty Harrell (D) and Senator Kay Hagen (D).
