Raleigh/Durham - While temperatures and fuel prices rise this summer, the American Red Cross reports that the blood inventory levels have fallen so low it is unable to sufficiently meet the demand of local hospitals. While there is a constant need for all blood types, donors with type O positive, O negative, A positive and A negative are asked to take an hour of time to help save a life by donating as soon as possible at a drive location near them. more

  

 
Beginning July 1st, American Red Cross Triangle Chapter has chosen to participate in a Pampered Chef Experience to support the emergency assistance that they provide to their clients.

By purchasing Pampered Chef products through this fundraiser, up to 20% of sales will go towards helping people in the community. The North Carolina First Annual Red Cross Day at the State Capitol was a huge success with ten chapters from across the state coming together in Raleigh on Wednesday, June 4. Employees and volunteers lobbied for two issues important to the Red Cross in North Carolina: tax-exempt status for purchases made with client assistance cards and a bill to lower the age for blood donors to 16 with parental consent. Information stations were set up in the Capitol to educate elected officials about Red Cross services in North Carolina. The Red Cross contingency closed out their day in the gallery of the North Carolina House and Senate with acknowledgment from the floor by Rep. Ty Harrell (D) and Senator Kay Hagen (D).

  

SMITHFIELD, NC, June 17, 2008— While more than 215 motorcyclists participated in the Ride for the Red, Red Cross disaster volunteers were responding to a fire in Benson. The money raised at Ride for the Red will help all Johnston County fire victims, including a family of four in Benson who lost everything in their home fire. Red Cross volunteers were on the scene of the fire in Benson on Saturday, providing emergency shelter in a hotel and financial assistance for food and clothing.   more
