Triangle Area Chapter Disaster Services Volunteering.
As easy as 1, 2, 3.........
To become an American Red Cross Disaster Services Volunteer, the following 3 steps must be completed.
Step 1:
Attend the Triangle Area Chapter American Red Cross Volunteer Orientation session and complete the background check. Click here for more information about these sessions.
Step 2:
Twice a month, the Triangle Area Chapter will hold a 3 hour new disaster volunteer session, with time at the end for questions and answers. The Ameican Red Cross training course- Fulfilling Our Mission: Translating Your Compassion to Community Action will be taught. During the course, the following topics will be covered:
- Review of a Disaster Relief Operation (DRO), both large and small scale.
- Examine the role that community organizations play in large disaster events.
- Review of the Disaster Services Human Resources (DSHR) Groups and Activities (Organizational Chart)
The dates/times for orientation sessions are as follows:

Step 3:
Because the largest part of a Disaster Response is sheltering those displaced by disaster, all Triangle Area Chapter Disaster Volunteers are required to be trained in sheltering. The courses Mass Care Overview and Shelter Operations are taught twice monthly at the Triangle Area Chapter (Click here to view the training schedule).
The following forms can be submitted at the last training course:
Volunteers are entered into the Disaster Services Human Resources (DSHR) system after completing the first 3 training courses. These courses can be taken in any order. Paperwork is submitted to the Disaster Volunteer Staffing team. A member of the team will contact you and review the following information to ensure that all of your questions are answered.
- Available disaster volunteer opportunities with an explanation of job requirements and review of job descriptions
- Training resources and requirements for Disaster Volunteers
- Paperwork review/ID Badge Photos *A digital photo can be submitted to DSHR@trianglearc.org *
- Develop a Volunteer Career Plan, including contact information for Leadership Volunteers, required training courses (both in class and online) and disaster drill opportunites.
